Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.
Made from exotic Rosewood, all of the edges are cross-banded in Kingwood. The top of the lid has four brass inlaid playing cards, each engraved with one of the suits.

The box comes complete with a working tasseled key. Once opened the interior reveals a fitted interior to accommodate four packs of cards, or one side could be used for a score pad; the central section is ideal for dice, score pencils and other bits and pieces. I have included these four packs of modern playing cards to complete the offering.
Excellent condition, measuring 10 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 2 1/8" tall.
