Description

Map of the World; a white metal medallion by T Halliday? Circa 1829, details depict Australia as New Holland. This example is interesting; although pierced for suspension, it also bears an edge inscription PRESENTED TO LAWSON GALES BY MR ROBINSON 2ND CLASS FIGURES DECR 1829. 7.4cm diam.

N.B. The Lawsons were a family of ship builders in Sunderland. L Gales is listed as a ship builder in Hylton. He died in 1856. Their yard is known to have produced over 200 ships.
