Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.

The front has a shield-shaped engraved and polished brass escutcheon which houses the working tasseled key.
The box opens to reveal a professionally re-fitted interior, in a deep green colour. The removable tray has a central fitting for a pocket watch, which would be equally useful for a bracelet. The front and back is fitted to accommodate rings the width of the tray.

The back edge of the box is gold embossed with the English design registration date (a rare and highly desirable feature on a wooden box) for Oct 27, 1869. Superb condition in every way, measuring 10" x 8 1/4" x 3 3 1/4" tall to top of domed lid (excluding handle).
