A Georgian Period Oak Longcase Harrison Norwich

Description

A Georgian period oak longcase clock of good proportions. A pagoda hood pediment with parquetry inlay flanked by gilded finials. Brass capped fluted hood columns and rear quarters. Side hood glass apertures. A parquetry fan inlay to the trunk door. A brass and silvered dial with corner spandrels. A seconds dial and date aperture with blued steel hands. A high quality 5 pillar, 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Brass cased weights.

John Harrison of Norwich is recorded in Birds' 'Norfolk and Norwich Clockmakers' book as working from 1726-1783. He notes in the book that he was 'an eminent clockmaker'. A longcase clock is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
