Description

A charming little sterling silver Nutmeg box in the form of a banded barrel , dating to around 1775 with a gilded interior with the makers initials hallmarked to the interior base of the barrel SM for the maker Samuel Meriton II, famous for these pieces.

The top unscrews to reveal the original grater which pops out. The Nutmeg would be stored under the grater within the barrel.

The underside of the barrel is engraved A * C, perhaps a marriage piece with the two initials.

Excellent condition, measuring 1 1/2" tall. 0.56 Troy Ounces / 17.3 Grams.
