Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The inside of the inkwell is made from thick glass and then encased in a good gauge sterling silver hallmarked for London 1902 (slightly rubbed) with additional partial marks on the interior and the hinged lid The makers marks is also present (J*P) for J. Parkes, the underside also is engraved with the silversmith's London address J. Parkes, 12 Vigo St. W.
The silk interior is stamped Harman Lambert & Co. 177 New Bond St.

A really superb piece, it would make an exceptional gift. The inkwell has a base diameter measuring 4 1/4" x 2 1/8" tall; the box measuring 5 1/4" (usual minor wear to case).
