Superb Large Writing Box

19th century
Description

A very good 19th .C. mahogany campaign writing slope with sunken brass corners and handles. There is a drawer to the base which is released by a brass bolt from inside. This box also has a book rest which has 2 brass adjustable supports. The writing surface replaced with top quality hand dyed leather with gold and blind tooling. The 2 falls lift to reveal storage for letters , stationary etc. and there is a scalloped ebonised pen tray , a paper clip/stamp slope a lidded compartment with original turned ivory knob and 2 wells for ink pots(1 original ink pot within). Top quality brass lock stamped Hobbs & Co. Cheapside , London , and impressed number 40416 . Patent. With keys.
