Georgian Burr Yew Double Cannister Tea Caddy with Cut Crystal Mixing Bowl C.1820

Description

A lovely example and lovely to be in a rarer timber, exotic Burl Yew with it's rich nutty colour and knotty figuring. The box is trimmed in elegant boxwood stringing.

The top is mounted with a Sheffield plated handle, silver over copper and the front inset with an Ivory escutcheon which houses the working key.

The lid lifts to reveal the lid interior is lined in Mahogany with an oval boxwood inlay. The two removable cannisters are also framed in boxwood inlay.

The original cut crystal bowl remains intact, used to mix black and green tea leaves (held in the two cannisters) to taste and then transferred to the teapot.

Excellent condition, measuring 11 3/4" x 5 7/8" x 6" tall.
