A Superb Japy Freres clock set, very chic classical design and beautifully made from brass. The four sides of the clock case are delicately fretted with foliage and floral swags. The top of the case is is surmounted by a tapered finial in the shape of a topiary tree. Six light candelabra are modelled as tangled foliage and sit upon a vase with mythical creatures. The bases complement the design of the clock and have 2 bold scrolls.
The back door of the clock is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen - the whole set is modelled all around allowing the clock to be equally well displayed in the centre of a room as to the side.
Antique Japy Freres movement runs for 8 days and strikes half-hourly on a bell. It has been fully restored in our workshop and is on excellent clean and running condition. The pendulum is an new replacement. Click the movie below to see and hear the movement working!
Condition of the case is excellent with a bright and clean finish, there is some wear and discolouration in places. One sconce has been replaced at sometime, other than that there are no losses or damage, see the pictures below. The dial is also in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. The original glass has a small light scratch. The candelabra arms are slightly distorted.
Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
