A stunning quality rosewood Late Victorian display cabinet by Collinson & Lock. The upper section having a stepped moulded dentil cornice above an ivory inlaid frieze and decorated with penwork depicting griffin heads and scrolling foliage. The serpentine glazed central door encloses a velvet lined shelved interior, flanked by small glass display cabinets above small niches. The lower section of bowed breakfront form centred by an astragal glazed door, flanked by concave cupboards, the whole raised on baluster fluted tapering supports united by a deep step moulded pedestal, this cabinet is of Superior quality with outstanding choice of solid rosewood, typical of Collinson & Lock

circa 1880-1890

Collinson & Lock were one of the foremost producers of Aesthetic and Art Nouveau furniture in London. A large collection of their work is on display at the V & A museum, including an antique cabinet shown at the 1871 London International Exhibition.

The company was established in the 1860s by F.G. Collinson and G.J. Lock, who worked for Jackson & Graham, a firm famous for its machine-made antique marquetry furniture . This was to become a feature of Collinson & Lock’s own work.
