Description

A stunning Victorian Period mahogany, satinwood and marquetry inlaid display cabinet by Edwards & Roberts of London. The upper section of serpentine outline with a single glazed serpentine door below the beautiful marquetry inlaid frieze of marquetry inlaid garlands, opening to reveal a shelved interior. The lower section having beautiful twin marquetry inlaid drawers with cast brass gilded handles. The serpentine sides having classical Adams style urns and satinwood cross banding,the whole supported on square tapering legs with spade feet and united by a serpentine shaped under tier, stamped to the drawer, circa 1890-1900

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century.

They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp.

Edwards & Roberts specialized in Marquetry, inlay and Ormolu.

Dimensions: 79" high, 48" wide, 18" deep

Condition: This cabinet is in beautiful restored condition, re-lined inside.
