Magnificent English Regency Penwork & Ivory Table Cabinet C.1820

Description

An exceptional example of an English painted penwork table cabinet with the most sensational large carved and polished spherical Ivory feet, with a complimentary finial crowning the lid.

The lid lifts to reveal a top compartment with the original pink painted finish, typically Regency, this is carried through to all the drawer interiors; perfect for Jewellery, sewing or letters. The front of the top portion of the cabinet is decorated with mysterious Griffins, known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.

The doors open to reveal a lavishly decorated interior, the drawers with turned Ivory knobs and a variety of Penwork designs including Oak leaves and Acorns.

The front of the doors are decorated with two rural scenes. The box comes complete with a working tasseled key which works both the front doors and lid.

Quite superb, dating to around 1820, and remaining in excellent condition with a foot print measuring 10 1/2" wide x 7" deep x 16 1/2" tall.
