Thomas Hope Style Mahogany Wine Cooler

19th century
Description

A wonderful quality and unusual Regency period mahogany CELLARETTE or WINE COOLER very much in the manner of Thomas Hope. The beautifully figured veneered and 'gabled' top opens to reveal the lead-lined interior (with fitted lead plug) whilst it is carved all around with good gadrooning and acanthus leaf corners, surmounted by typical "cotton-reel" finials. The front features a recessed "flame" mahogany panel, and it is supported on swept bracket feet with the original castors concealed below. A most impressive and eye-catching specimen! 32ins wide; 21ins deep (81cms x 53cms)
