Description

A stunning quality burr walnut Victorian Period fold over card table by Gillows of Lancaster. Having a rectangular fold over top veneered in beautifully figured burr walnut with boxwood, sycamore, Kingwood and purple heart banded detail, which opens to reveal a maroon baized interior. The whole raised on four reeded and turned columns with ormolu beaded detail, united by a turned and reeded stretcher with inset brass castor's, bearing the Gillows stamp, circa 1870

This table is stamped by Gillow & Co unlike many other items advertised as by Gillows but not marked or stamped

Gillows of Lancaster is renowned in the world of fine furniture, by this Lancashire firm held in the same esteem as those of Sheraton and Chippendale.
