Fabulous English Sterling Silver & Tortoise Shell Hand Mirror - Exquisite Inlay

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

About as good as they get, this magnificent hand or dressing table mirror is a real gem.

Made from sterling silver, the side is where the English hallmark can be found for London 1922 together with the silversmith's initials F & Co Ld.

The mirror is outlined with a beautiful raised border in the form of a continuous Acanthus Leaf garland. The back of the mirror is inset with a fabulous piece of period Tortoiseshell with stunning markings and colours ranging from golden Champagne to rich Chocolate brown, showcased by it's glossy patina.

The inlay is simply exquisite, an engraved silver hanging basket tied with a ribbon and bow. The basket is overflowing with leaves and flowers and leaves, all made from tiny pieces of Mother of Pearl attached to stems made from a twisted wire inlay made from gold.

The mirror itself is also in splendid undamaged shape, the glass is original with bevelling.

Excellent condition, measuring 9 1/2" long and the glass itself having a diameter measuring 4 3/4".

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
