Magnificent Sheraton Eight-sided Harewood & Laburnum Tea Caddy C.1780

Description

A sensational George III eight-sided tea caddy dating to the late eighteenth century, around 1780. Made from Harewood with fabulous central ovoid panels in Laburnum, the caddy is beautifully inlaid on all sides.

The top, front, sides and back have the most beautiful foliate marquetry inlay and the other sides with linear inlays.

The interior reveals a triple lidded interior, each lid topped with a turned Ivory knob; the interior of the lid has been re-lined with a hand-marbled paper.

The front is inlaid with an Ivory escutcheon which houses a working tasselled key.

A real gem, in excellent condition, measuring 9 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 5 1/4" tall.
