Description

An English fusee dial clock. A walnut surround with a brass bezel. An 8-day duration precision fusee mechanism. Circa 1885.

Swinden & Sons of Birmingham are well documented in McKenna's 'Clockmakers of Central England' book and were established in 1825. It is noted that many Swinden clocks were in schools, libraries and council offices. This example being numbered 25385 would have been in a public place.
