A stunning French antique clock set in bronze by the top maker Japy Freres. It is Baroque in style with a large elaborate urn with lions masks and trailing laurel swags. The movement is mounted in a drum supported on a pillar flanked by two stylised legs with claw feet. Candelabra are conforming in style with four swept arms.
The bronze is a lovely mellow golden brown with a life times patination.
The dial is gilt brass with 12 individual enamel cartouches and blued steel hands. It is covered by a bronze bezel fitted with convex glass.
The French movement is by Japy Freres mark and has the makers mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is excellent, the original bronze colour has mellowed to a lovely golden brown. There are some areas discolouration, wear and marks as you would expect and there is some natural verdigris particularly on the candelabra which all adds to the character of the set. The dial is also in excellent condition just some tiny nibbles next to the winding holes. Candelabra are slightly distorted.
Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
