Antique English Games Box - Burl Walnut & Tunbridge Ware Inlaid C.1860

Description

An absolutely exquisite Victorian games box, perfect for cards, cribbage, or even poker chips.

The box is made from Burl Walnut seen on the sides and back, and edged in Ebony. The front and top is decorated with the most intricate Tunbridge Parquetry inlay. The centre is inlaid with five splayed playing cards made from polished brass with exotic woods. The front is inlaid with a complimentary brass inlaid shield shaped escutcheon which houses the working tasselled key.

The interior reveals the edges trimmed in Coromandel. The interior has been professionally re-lined in a hand-marbled paper to create a smart & clean finish ready for another 150 years of use. Perfect for the games player or equally as a desk-top box for the cards enthusiast.

Excellent condition, measuring 10 1/4" x 8 1/4" x 3 3/4".
