London Georgian Bracket Clock

Description

A Georgian triple pad top mahogany bracket clock. Brass edging to the case and dial surround. Fishscale brass side sound fretwork and pull cord repeating. Brass ogee bracket feet. An arched painted dial with strike/silent to the arch and date aperture above 6. A very well engraved backplate with Prince of Wales plumes. An 8-day duration, twin fusee mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Anchor esacapement from verge.

John Wontner of Minories, London is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working until 1807. He was admitted to the Clockmakers Company in 1770 and is noted as 'A maker of repute'.
