Japy Freres Antique French Gilt Brass Clock

19th century
Description

Japy Freres Antique French Gilt Brass Clock

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A stunning Rococo boudoir clock by the well known maker Japy Freres. It is very good quality and beautifully modelled in gilded brass with intricate and well chased detail. The beautiful waisted key hole shape is decorated with acanthus shoulders and bezel, 'C' scrolls and a shell motif. To the top is a large and elaborate urn with trailing foliage.

The dial is enamel on copper and has a gilt brass centre and original blued steel hands. The acanthus bezel is fitted with convex bevelled glass. The rear door is glazed with frosted glass.

The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the makers mark on the backplate. It is of Japy Freres' usual high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration and there are no losses. The dial is also in excellent condition with no chips or scratches. There is a small chip to the edge of the original glass, this is hardly noticeable. Displays beautifully as you can see below!

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
