Handsome Fern Engraved Revolving Butter Dish C.1880

Description

A most attractive revolving butter dish with the domed top beautifully engraved with a variety of ferns, very English and very Victorian; standing on four highly decorative legs.

The lid has an integral button knob to the front to open the lid. The interior reveals the original molded glass dish in the ever-popular hobnail design and without damage.

There is a pin on a chain at the back to stop the lid being opened and keeping it securely closed. The knobs at each side can be gently tightened by hand to firm up the lid action.

On the back of the lid there is a full mark for the silversmith, Frederick Wilson & Co., and EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver.

Elegant and very usable in excellent condition, measuring 8 1/2" wide including knobs at side with a footprint 5 3/4" deep x 5 1/2" tall. The glass liner measures 5 1/2" x 4 7/8".
