Top Quality Large Silver Plated Tea Caddy by Roberts & Belk of Sheffield -1927

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A really superb quality tea caddy, heavy and a large example in silverplate , not sterling but it would cost a princely sum if in sterling.

The border around the base is beautifully decorated with hand-engraving and chasing as is the scalloped border around the top. The oval handles are decorated with a very stylish lined design. The beautifully shaped lid is topped with a carved Coquila nut finial.

The underside has a few set of marks for the retailer " Bracher & Sydenham - Reading " This Jeweller and Silversmith, still in operation today, Bracher & Sydenham, now Goldsmiths, on Queen Victoria Street, can boast a long line of regal customers and even a hand in the formation of Reading FC.

The shop still displays the warrants from Edward VII and Princess Mary Adelaide, Duchess of Teck, and it is believed to have been frequented by Queen Victoria and George V.

The underside is also stamped Romney Plate Sheffield which was a trade name used by Roberts and Belk; the design registration number, 726507, is also present dating this piece to 1927.

The finest quality in superb condition, measuring 5 3/4" (excluding handles) x 4 1/4" x 6" tall to top of finial.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
