Pretty Antique Cut Glass & Sterling Silver Heart Box - Chester 1901

Description

A wonderful cut crystal heart shaped box, cut with the hobnail design on the sides and line cut to the underside.

The sterling silver lid is as pretty as a picture with a central domed shield-shaped vacant cartouche and surround with a floral and foliate repousse or embossed design, all surrounded by a beaded or rope edging.

The silver is clearly hallmarked for the highly collectible Chester assay office and the year 1901, very late Victorian or early Edwardian. The maker's initials are also present, N & H for the silversmith, Nathan & Hayes.

A superb example in excellent condition, measuring 2 3/4" x 2 7/8" x 1 3/4" tall.
