London Fine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1700s.
Dating from c1700 the coffer has a four panel front and a twin panel side which, in keeping with the rest of the piece, are abundant with hand-carving.

The lid of the piece hinges in front of the upright section to reveal a very spacious storage area with internal shelf at the mid-point. There is also a candle box to the right which usefully opens to act as the stay for the main lid.

The top section to the coffer is also wonderfully carved. This piece is a 19th century addition to the original and the well balanced resulting coffer sideboard is a very attractive and desirable. The top shelf offers great opportunity for display of collectables.

Lovely warmth to the colour of the oak ensures that the piece will suit any location. Internally the piece is very clean and would make excellent storage.
Overall a rare and practical piece of furniture in very good antique order. Substantially crafted and pleasingly carved.
