Antique Table Cafe Dining Original Philip Strobel & Sons New York C1895

19th century
Description

Philip Strobel & Sons New York - Original - c1895

Philip Strobel of New York established business in 1852 and began making furniture for the burgeoning cafe and restaurants sector and for those seeking quality home dining furniture too.

An original Strobel design book can be found at this link:

http://www.archive.org/stream/diningroomcaff00phil#page/n7/mode/2up

Included within the design book is a circular version of the table listed here

http://www.archive.org/stream/diningroomcaff00phil#page/54/mode/2up

This mahogany Cafe Dining Table is beautiful example with a gorgeous design presented in superb condition.

A quartet of cast iron legs with turned-toe and wonderful detailing support a wonderfully turned and fluted centre column. The column is in a rich dark mahogany and the combination of quality timber and cast iron together make the base a very solid support for the square top. The legs benefit from original casting holes where the table would have been bolted to the floor of the premises.

The table displays excellently with a rich colour to the top which is presented in lovely antique order.

This piece will make a wonderful addition to any location and is suitable for intimate dining, as a lamp or display table, or as a feature item of furniture in a prominent location.

A perfect example of practicality and good design with craftsmanship which marks the piece out as one of quality.

Overall this piece of furniture is in very good condition. The cast iron legs are in perfect order, the pedestal base is rock solid with charming hairline age lines, the top is strong of joint and exhibits lovely dark mahogany hues. The piece is free of woodworm.

It is rare to find an example in this order and wonderful to have the original makers mark.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
