Atropos Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.

The cabinet was designed for the display and protection of a collection of british lepidoptera and is built to the highest possible standards of cabinet making and using the type of materials that are no longer available on this planet! The precision and detail is beyond most if not all modern cabinet makers. To have such a piece made now would cost twenty thousand pounds even if the materials were available.

The cabinet is solid mahogany and all the drawers are faced with fine 'fiddle-back' veneer creating the most pleasing effect which is breath taking every time the doors are opened. The drawers all have fine fitting glazed frames and a universal hidden cell around the inner edge. The drawer bases are cork lined and the drawers will just accommodate continental length pins.
