Large Antique French Gilt Brass Four Glass Crystal Regulator

19th century
Description

Large Antique French Gilt Brass Four Glass Crystal Regulator

~ French - Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A large and handsome original antique French four glass or crystal regulator. It is of grand proportions, finely made in gilded brass, with reeded Corinthian columns, stepped break front base and top with scalloped edges. The heavy gilt brass pendulum swings gently within the case and the jewelled Brocot dead-beat pin-pallet is visible within the dial. The movement is also visible within the case.

The dial is enamel on copper and is complete with the original fretted brass hands. In the lower half of the centre there is a rubbed signature for the Liverpool retailer. The front and rear doors are bevelled glass.

The French movement is of high quality and has the Paris retailer / clockmaker H. P. & Co's mark on the backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is good, there is some pitting, light scratching, wear and discolouration to the original gilding but it is in clean and bright condition. The dial has a hair line and a very small chip near the 1 o'clock. The front glass has chipping at the top right hand corner and the rear door has chipping also at the top right hand corner. The two side panels have been replaced with plain glass at some time.

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Dimensions of clock:

inches: Height 13 1/4", Width 8 1/4", Depth 6 1/2"

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employ two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
