Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1910s.

The cabinet is automated and musical .. the key to wind the music box is found above the decanters (underneath the keys); firstly you have to be able to get in, which you do by releasing the doors with two brass levers at the back, above this is another lever used to release the sprung glass topped lid which holds the glasses.

So, we are now in with the music box wound, now we can close the doors and put down the lid. To get the music started we press gently on the centre of the keyboard holding down for a couple of seconds to start one of the two Airs, as the music plays, the cabinet doors (sometimes one, sometimes two) will automatically open, and the glazed lid will spring open ... quite something. The two Airs are listed on the paper label on the underside (Dolorosa - Fox Trot & Barcelona).
A sensational find in excellent condition, the footprint measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and standing 11 1/2" tall.
