Quality Antique English Burr Walnut Domed Stationery Box by Briggs, Piccadilly, London

Description

A lovely antique English dome top stationery box dating to around 1860, made from rich Cognac coloured burl Walnut, with wonderful figuring showcased under a natural lustrous patina.

There are heavy thick cast brass mounts running from the back, over the domed lid and down the front, most unusual. Within one of these mounts is the keyhole or escutcheon housing the working tasselled key.

The original fitted interior is intact and the silk Amethyst coloured taffeta lining on the inside of the lid. There is an inset brass plaque, engraved by the quality manufacturer, Briggs, 27 Piccadilly, London.

A beautiful box in excellent condition, measuring 8 3/4" x 4 3/4" deep x 6 7/8" tall to top of dome.
