Fowey River Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The cast iron has been gilded using hand applied gold leaf not spray painted as is the case in the majority of gilt lamps and clocks. It is bright and crisp and would certainly be a wonderful centrepiece.
The original large white round shade is in perfect condition as is the chimney and it is in full working order.
It is fully marked Wright and Butler Duplex Burner Birmingham and what makes this a rare lamp is that it can be filled without removing the burner as seen in the photographs.
There is a registration number of 47917 inside which dates this lamp very specifically to 1885
It measures 61cms high and the base is 6cms across.
It has been professionally restored whilst retaining the patina which you would expect, it is also extremely heavy.
A genuine Victorian oil lamp by Wright and Butler in the classical and elegant design which would look stunning in a period home and very much sought after by collectors.
