Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1870s.

The box is made more collectible than most having a central decoupaged image labelled "The Prince & Princess of Wales" dating to around 1875.
The side of the box is mounted with Ivory or bone eyelets where the thread would be dispensed, each marked with a number corresponding to the thread within.

The box is decorated with some gold detailing and the name of the tartan, Prince Charlies still intact.
A superb example in excellent condition, (one small "bubble" under image, mentioned purely for accuracy), measuring 3 5/8" in diameter x 2 1/4" tall.
