Magnificent Break Front Serpentine Tea Caddy in Tortoiseshell C.1825

Description

An absolutely fabulous Tortoise Shell Tea Caddy dating to the George IV era, around 1825.

The pattern of the shell is quite exquisite, bold and highly decorative, the way we always like to find them, this one beautifully segmented with polished pewter stringing creating an even more interesting visual delight.

The beautifully shaped front is mounted with a silver escutcheon complimenting the silver mounted cartouche in the centre of the lid.

The interior is trimmed in Ivory (with complimentary Ivory ball feet) and the interior of the lid lined in it's original dusty pink velvet (with wear). The two compartment lids are also segmented with pewter stringing and topped with turned Ivory knobs.

A beautiful example, with tiny minor professional repairs, the box has an exceptional glossy patina. 8" x 5" x 5".
