Description

A fabulous Victorian biscuit box by the top-notch silversmith and London retailer, Mappin & Webb.

The decoration is just about everything you could wish for with it's two very English Lion's heads with ring handles each side. There are wonderful Scottish inspired borders all around including the rim of the integral tray, with a continuous garland of Scottish Thistles. The front has a very grand engraved cartouche.

Standing on four highly decorative feet, this piece remains in excellent condition, the tray measuring 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 8" tall. The underside has the full makers mark for Mappin & Webb, dating to around 1880/1890, a true Victorian gem.
