Antique English Threaded Glass Match Striker - Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Mount

Description

A fabulous and most unusual match ball, made from clear glass with the usual textured surface for the striking of non-safety matches or Vestas.

What makes this one stand out from the crowd is the highly decorative sterling silver mount surrounding the match chamber, the pierced and repousse mount is a beautifully organic Art Nouveau design. The silver is hallmarked for the highly collectible Chester assay office and the year 1902, making this an early Edwardian example. The makers initials are also present for the well renowned silversmith, James Deakin & Sons - John & William Deakin.

Excellent condition (a few minuscule rough spots to the surface, normal for these pieces) measuring 2 1/4" in diameter and 2" high.
