Rare Large Amethyst Coloured Match Striker - Sterling Silver, London 1902

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

An impressive large threaded glass match strike in a rarely seen colour, a deep Amethyst. This example is made of molded glass with the initials AJ on the underside, this produces a hollow interior allowing or the sterling silver match chamber to be sunk down into the interior of the strike.

The surface of the glass is threaded, creating a textured surface to strike a non-safety match or Vesta on. The silver collar on this example has had a threaded finish too.

The hallmarks on these match balls are notoriously hard to read from years of cleaning, this one isn't too bad, London 1902, making this an early Edwardian treasure.

Excellent condition, measuring 2 3/4" in diameter x 3" tall.
