Grand Antique English Silver Plated Urn by Elkington - 1867

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A quite magnificent tea or hot water urn made by the creme de la creme of English Electro-Plate manufacturers, Elkington & Co.

A fabulous example with classical faces topping the handles and a welcoming pineapple topping the lid. The urn is beautifully hand chased with floral and foliate garlands and stands on beautifully cast feet with a shell motif.

The urn is complete with it's original heating case and heavy Iron weight which would have been heated on the range and then placed into the container in turn placed into the urn to keep the liquid warm.

The Spigot is lucky enough to have retained it's original Ivory handle, quite wonderful. There is a full hallmark for Elkington & Co., with a date letter for 1867.

I have paired it (for photographic purposes only) with this mirrored Plateau which (if available) can be purchased separately if required, the beaded decoration on both pieces make them a perfect combination.

The back cartouche is engraved with a family crest of a boar with a banner underneath "nunquam obliviscar" or I will never forget.

The urn spans 10 1/4" across the handles and towers 21 3/4" tall (excluding Plateau).

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
