This fantastic prayer-rug was made by Timuri tribes in western Afghanistan around 1870-1880. The field design reminds me of the 'Dokhtar-e-Ghazi' group - in this case, beautifully drawn with an exceptional use of vegetable green, yellow and ivory highlights. The use of green is particularly amazing - rarely found in such quantities in Timuri weavings! A truly wonderful piece in excellent condition with original sides and brocaded skirts.
