P A Oxley Antique Clocks & Barometers has dated this piece to the 1750s.
Also with seconds and date to the centre and blued steel hands. The corners painted with the early feature of raised gold gesso scrolls. The small oak case of a very light colour with a long trunk door inlaid with a large ebony and boxwood starburst to the centre and further inlay to the edge. The plain base with small bracket feet. The hood with a flat top, plain angle pillars terminating with unusual ebonised capitals and inspection windows to each side.
