Huge Antique English Cut Crystal and Sterling Silver Inkwell - 1898

Description

A handsome and imposing large cut glass inkwell with a highly decorative hobnail design with fine cut detailing on the high points; the underside with a star cut.

The collar and hinged domed lid are made from English sterling silver, fully hallmarked for London 1898, making this a true Victorian example. The makers initials FH are also present for the silversmith, Francis Higgins.

The inkwell retains the little glass liner, removable for easily re-filling with ink and cleaning, a couple of rough spots around the liner rim, insignificant but mentioned for accuracy.

A hefty and substantial desk-top accessory measuring 3 1/2" square x 3 3/4" tall.
