An exceptional Georgian oak longcase clock by Nathaniel Sanders of Manchester.
1775.
The cabinet is crossbanded throughout with fine pollard oak veneers, which are further inlaid with ebony and holly block stringing.
The caddie topped hood is surmounted by three original water gilded wooden finials, below is a wonderful verre eglomise decorated panel, with fine original gilded decoration depicting swags and cherubs
The inlaid hood door is flanked by pollard oak turned columns, which are capped with brass capitals.
The figured long trunk door with shaped top is crossbanded and flanked by pollard oak quarter turned columns, which are capped with turned wooden capitals.
The crossbanded and inlaid canted base, with ogee bracket feet.
The square brass dial is of elegant design with gilded spandrel mounts in the corners and engraved dial centre, with ringed calendar and subsidiary seconds zone.
The silvered chapter ring has bold Roman numerals and an outer minute circle with Arabic numerals at five minute intervals.
The original blued steel hands are finely wrought and pierced.
The eight day duration movement is of the finest quality, striking the hours on a single bell, employing a rack striking mechanism.
The movement is complete with its original cast iron weights and brass faced pendulum.

Nathaniel Sanders born 1745 died 1828.
Apprenticed to Nathaniel Brown of Manchester on 17th April 1759, for 6 years at a cost of £10.
