1750. With leather upholstered padded serpentine back and serpentine seat, the arm rests with acanthus carved supports and knotted flower head to centres - both the ancanthus carving and knotted flower a rare motif which matches that used on the renowned Gibside Gainsborough Chairs (which were made by Grendey a decade earlier in c. 1740).
Generous proportions, extremely comfortable and well padded throughout.
Complete and original this is an exceptionally rare example in very fine condition. Colour is particularly good and the chair has the beautiful soft patina that only time and use can produce. The leather upholstery with some attractive soft wear in excellent condition also.
With provenance from the estate of an astute and knowledgeable private collector.
Dimensions are: 38 inches high, 24 inches wide at feet and 20 inches wide between arms, 26 inches deep max. Chair seat is 21 inches front to back, height of arms from floor is 27 inches and height of back from seat is 24 inches. for metric please multiply each inch by 2.5
