Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The sides are truly nautical in design emulating flags, complimenting the fine Marquetry top featuring a Clipper ship with the Lighthouse atop the Headland on the left-hand side.

The interior is as wonderful with the superbly decorated lid topped with an Ivory knob and the lid interior lined in a piece of Flag or flag-like fabric.
These Trinity House boxes were made by Lighthouse owners (often in the Portsmouth area of the UK) and sold to owners and Captains of the ships.
Dating to around 1840, early Victorian in era, the box is in superb condition measuring 5 1/2" x 5 1/4" x 5 3/4" tall.
