Antique Baluch Tribal Rug, Khorassan, North-east Persia.

Description

This charming Baluch rug is unusual for its small size. Dating to around 1870-1880, the rug is in very good condition although the brown dye has corroded due to the iron mordant in the wool - fairly typical in Baluch rugs of this age. Otherwise, the colours are all natural, the pille is excellent and the rug retains its flatwoven and brocaded skirts at each end. In need of a good wash and some very minor restoration.
