Description

A wonderfully charming Victorian table vesta in the form of a basket with a Parrot trying to escape at the front with a cheeky monkey on the top trying to keep him in.

Really very solid and heavy, this quality example has a hinged lid which opens to reveal an interior that would have been used to house (non-safety) matches with a strike on the interior of the lid.

Dating to around 1860, it remains in excellent condition, measuring 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 2 3/4" tall.
