Fowey River Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
This is indeed quite rare, very much in the Art Nouveau or Arts and Crafts design it has stand made of brass and copper which compliment each other beautifully.
The shade is finely etched with a floral pattern which is so typical of the Art Nouveau era. The shade is a later replacement but this does not detract from the beauty of the lamp at all.
It is marked with Sherwoods Ltd Made in Birmingham and then Made In England.
It has been professionally restored with the brass and copper being bright and crisp whilst retaining the patina which you would expect.
It measures 20" high and the base is 6" across.
It is in full working order and both the shade and chimney are in perfect condition.
A genuine Victorian oil lamp in the elegant design which would look stunning in any period home.
It is not marked as Benson the design is listed in reference books.
