Mansion House Antiques & Fine Art has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The finish is still very good with no pitting.
The surface has a natural polished finish typical of stainless steel which has been all hand worked and finished.
There has been a wooden base stand attached back in the fifties which allows the suit to stand firmly upright.
This wooden plinth has been painted black.
All individual parts of the full suit are correct to the suit and belong together.
The complete arm sections are fastened to the front and back breast plates with leather straps and buckles anchored from the shoulder.
There are steel cables running through the inside of both arms,which secure the gauntlets and arm postures firmly in place.
The lower back of the leg sections are hinged and fully openable.
There is a red tunic with gold trim which has been added around 1970.
The suit has been in our family for around 15 years and we will be sad to see it go after so long.
Th weight of the complete suit is considerable and has to be dismantled for ease of moving.
A fine example of dress armour which would grace a baronial large hall and would be a great talking point.
This suit could be an excellent promotional item for the right business or perhaps a fine piece with which to furnish the grand entrance or reception of either a baronial period hall or hotel.
