Magnificent Antique English Biscuit Box C.1870 - Ram's Head & Hoof Supports

Description

A top notch example of a Victorian biscuit box in an oval shape, made from the heaviest piece of chunky crystal with stunning decoration and in undamaged condition.

The hinged lid is beautifully engraved surrounding the circular finial. The box sits on a stand again, engraved with what looks to be a continuous holly & berry garland and a continuous heart shaped leaf garland to the side. This stands on four pierced or reticulated feet, on the reverse of each foot there is a highly desirable diamond shaped English design registration lozenge, really small so I have been unable to date, but would be around 1870.

The four supports are what make this a particularly special example, figural with a hoof to the bottom and a Ram's head to the top, quite superb and highly sought-after.

A fabulous heirloom piece in excellent condition. The tray measures 9 1/4" x 7 1/2" and the box stands 8" tall to top of finial.
