Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1910s.
The front is also inlaid with a fine stringing to emulate drawers with pulls to the smaller "drawers" and the centre with a shaped brass escutcheon which houses the working tasseled key.

The lid opens to reveal a lined interior with green silk to the side and a darker green velvet pad to the base.
Excellent condition and as unusual as they come, the box remains in excellent condition, measuring 8 1/4" x 4 3/4" (max) x 9 1/2" tall.
