The hinged lid is topped by are carved Ebony finial and the handle too made from solid Ebony.
The stand is supported by the most elegant splayed feet leading up to an exceptional cast reticulated "skirt", very unusual. The key to the front can also be released removing the kettle completely. There is a burner below which would have been filled with fuel to light the wick, keeping the water hot and ready to top-up the teapot.

The underside is fully marked G & S for Goodfellow & Sons of London.
Superb in every way. The footprint measures 7" x 6 1/4" x 13" tall.
